How We Legally Opened Our Farm Stand in Las Vegas: Our 1.5 Year Journey

Opening a farm stand in Las Vegas is possible, but it takes time, patience, and a whole lot of commitment. Our family recently completed the full special use permit process to legally open our homestead farm stand, and we want to share our experience to help others who dream of doing the same.

Our goal was simple. We wanted to serve our community with farm fresh eggs, microgreens, handmade goods, and a safe place where families could meet animals and learn about homesteading. What we didn’t expect was the long road it would take to get official approval.

The special use permit required by Clark County cost $1,300. The paperwork phase alone took six months as we worked through inspections, revisions, county requirements, and multiple rounds of communication. In total, it took 1.5 years before we were legally allowed to open our doors to the public.

Our first application was denied under the previous commissioner. It was a discouraging moment after months of planning and compliance efforts. But everything changed when Commissioner April Becker stepped in. She is a strong advocate for small businesses and recognized the value our mini farm brings to the community. She helped guide us through the process, supported our reapplication, and even helped waive our reapplication fee so we could move forward.

Today, our farm stand is fully approved and insured. We are proud to operate legally and to be a resource for others who want to bring local agriculture into Las Vegas. This journey taught us patience, perseverance, and the power of supportive leadership.

If you’re a homesteader or small farm owner in Clark County thinking about starting a farm stand, we’re happy to share what we learned. It’s a long process, but absolutely worth it when you get to serve your community the right way. Thank you, Jesus!
